What we offer
We offer ongoing planning and advice on all areas of your financial life. This includes investment management and tax-efficient retirement planning.
Financial Planning
Our service begins with the creation of your comprehensive financial plan, which serves as a roadmap for your future financial decisions.
Financial planning is not a set-it-and-forget-it activity. Instead, financial plans evolve just as your life changes. A major life event such as a marriage or partnership, having a child, winning an audition or landing a new job may warrant an adjustment to your long-term plan. Even moving to a different state or changing your mind about certain goals may require reassessing estimated expenses and adjusting your savings accordingly.
After we create your initial plan together we will work closely throughout our relationship. Typical areas in which we provide ongoing advice include:
- Determine when to elect Social Security
- Assess Health insurance plan options
- Retirement portfolio withdrawal approach
- Adjust income tax withholding elections
- Roth conversion strategies
- Revise P&C insurance coverages
- Choose pension payment time & type
- Evaluate debt (including student loans) & propose options
- Conduct risk tolerance, preference and capacity assessments
- Refinance/start mortgage or reverse mortgage
- Transfer or consolidate investment accounts
- Review and update estate documents and beneficiary forms
A comprehensive financial plan can help you navigate all aspects of your financial life, which in turn can help you achieve a greater level of joy and satisfaction as a musician. A career in music can be incredibly fulfilling, but can also come with stress and anxiety about money.
Our approach helps you take control of your finances and enjoy the freedom that comes from knowing that you have a plan. We also help you navigate challenges unique to professional musicians such as freelance work vs W-2, health insurance, disability and life insurance, budgeting and irregular cash flow, multiple sources of income, tax planning, and even financial challenges related to career advancement and longevity.
Investment Management
Investing can seem mysterious and scary to many people. There is so much jargon and so much information available that it can be difficult to understand what to make of it.
Because of this, it's important to be intentional about your investing and have a clear philosophy behind it. You deserve to feel comfortable and optimistic about your investments. With a clear strategy and disciplined approach, we will help ensure that your investments are on track with your financial plan so that all components of your financial life are "playing from the same score."

We are able to proactively manage your 401(k) or 403(b) held-away accounts*, which allows us to holistically manage all of your retirement accounts according to your personalized financial plan, goals and objectives. Until recently financial advisors were not able to provide ongoing management and oversight for held-away accounts that is expected and required as a fiduciary due to limitations in technology.

*Client will be responsible for the 0.25% fee that Pontera charges AFP for held-away accounts a client wishes to have AFP manage on the Pontera platform.
We work with professional musicians and other creative professionals in two main ways:
- Ongoing financial planning, tax-efficient retirement planning and investment management
- Project engagement
While ongoing planning is our main focus, we will perform one-time project engagements as time allows.

One-Time Financial Plan
Fee ranges from $2,250 to $3,500 depending on complexity and needs of the client.
Occasionally a project may fall outside of this range but that would be unusual.
Our One-Time Plan is ideal for those looking for a professional financial plan (without ongoing investment management) who wish to take the plan home to put it into place themselves. Recognizing that the decisions families and individuals make before the age of 50 is critical for securing a strong financial future. These Clients are often “Do-It-Yourselfers” looking for a roadmap to develop long-term wealth, then will leave knowing what is needed to implement their plan.
Tune-Up Program
Fee ranges from $695 to $2,000 depending on complexity and needs of the client.
Occasionally a project may fall outside of this range but that would be unusual.
The Tune-Up Program is ideal for Clients early in their careers who need some planning but are unsure where to begin, “Do-It-Yourselfers” who want to check that they are headed on the right track, or Clients who need help with a specific issue.
Artisan Financial Planning will focus on one or two of the most pressing financial concerns of the Client’s choice. At the conclusion of this process, the Client will have the opportunity to become an ongoing client of AFP with access to advice for any financial or life planning decision that should arise. AFP will assist with the continued implementation of the plan and offer ongoing investment management services where needed.
Employee Benefit Plan Services
Our firm provides employee benefit plan services to employer plan sponsors on an ongoing basis. Generally, such services consist of assisting employer plan sponsors in establishing, monitoring and reviewing their company's participant-directed retirement plan. As the needs of the plan sponsor dictate, areas of advising could include investment options, plan structure, and participant education.
